Troubles Collection Campaign
Making a fiercely contested subject directly relevant to a history-averse audience
We were asked by BBC Northern Ireland to create an OOH and social campaign for their collection of documentaries and content marking 50 years since the Troubles started. Our key challenge: turn sensitive subject matter into essential viewing for under 35s.
Our solution: an arresting campaign that personalised a nation’s history for younger viewers under the tagline ‘Your Present Has A Past’. Fragmented visual language and provocative headlines bucked the clichés of traditional history-focused advertising.
Our outdoor advertising was used across a total of 47 historically significant sites in Northern Ireland. And while originally briefed only as an outdoor campaign, BBC NI eventually awarded Stereo with the social dimension of the campaign.
